Video walls

Stitch the kiosks in a swarm into one config-spanned video wall: lay out a grid, drag each screen into a cell, save, and the whole swarm converges on its own tile of a single combined image, live.

What a video wall is

A video wall is a rows × cols layout over one swarm. Each kiosk in the swarm owns one tile of a single, larger image; put those tiles together on the physical screens and they read as one display. Because a swarm is exactly the set of kiosks that share one cloud key, every wall belongs to one key, and the units in it are the only ones the layout ever reaches.

You build the wall by hand in the dashboard: drag screens into a grid, designate one as the master, and save. There is no wiring diagram to keep in sync and nothing to install on the units.

Open a swarm

Go to Video walls in your dashboard. Each cloud key is listed as one swarm, alongside how many kiosks belong to it. Open a swarm to enter its wall editor.

The editor shows the grid on the left and an Unassigned kiosks tray beneath it. Every unit in the swarm appears as a chip, each with a status dot: green when the unit is currently online, otherwise offline. You can place a kiosk whether or not it is online right now.

Build the wall

  1. Set the grid size

    Enter the number of rows and columns (up to 16 each) and press Resize. The grid redraws to that shape, ready for tiles.

  2. Drag kiosks into cells

    Drag a chip from the tray into the cell where that screen sits in the wall. Each cell holds one kiosk. Drop a chip on a different cell to move it, or drop it back on the tray to unassign it. The cell you place into corresponds to the tile that unit will render.

  3. Designate a master

    Pick one unit as the master for the swarm. It anchors the wall, but it is not special at render time — see below.

  4. Save and push

    Press Save & push to swarm to record the layout and send it to the units.

Designate a master

Every wall has a master unit, but the master is not a display server that the others depend on. When the cloud pushes a wall, every unit — the master included — renders its own tile of the one combined image directly. There is no single point that has to be up for the rest of the wall to keep working; each screen paints its own region.

Save and push to the swarm

Saving does two things. It records each unit's tile — the grid shape and that unit's row and column — against the swarm, and it pushes the whole layout to the swarm as a retained config. Because the config is retained, the swarm converges on it: units that are online apply the new layout at once, and a unit that reconnects later immediately receives the current wall and takes up its tile without you touching it again.

Placement is convergent. You do not deploy the wall to each screen one by one — you save it once, and the swarm settles onto the combined image on its own.

Kiosks you removed from the grid are cleared as part of the same save, so a screen you dragged back to the tray stops rendering a tile. The status line confirms when the layout has saved and pushed.

Changing the grid

Resizing the grid re-lays-out the wall. Growing it adds empty cells you can drag more kiosks into; shrinking it drops any tiles that now fall outside the new bounds, so those units return to the tray. Adjust the placements to suit the new shape, then save again to push the updated wall to the swarm.

A resize only takes effect once you save. Set the grid, arrange the tiles, then Save & push to swarm — the live wall does not change until you do.
